In this multi-disciplinary masterclass, Laura Quinn will guide you through the process of creating intricate lampworked glass forms using cane pulled from furnace glass. The formations will be preheated and applied to blown vessels in the glass hotshop on the final day of the course. The emphasis will be on experimentation.
This class is suitable for intermediate level students, who can embrace failure as being part of the learning curve in testing the limits of interdisciplinary making. If you are unsure about suitability please email us.
Schedule
- Day 1 - Introduction to flameworking with furnace glass. We will cover techniques of how to flatten and shape petals, assemble botanical structures and other assemblages, plus figurine work.
- Day 2 - Creation of refined flameworked pieces to be used in the hotshop.
- Day 3 - Mixed day of hotshop and flameworking
- Day 4 - Hotshop picking up flameworked pieces
Profile - Laura Quinn

Laura Quinn is an Irish glass artist based in the UK. She studied in the National College of Art and Design and Arts University Plymouth where she gained her MA in 3D Design Crafts. Laura has worked internationally in various studios including the Corning Museum of Glass, New York, Olustvere Glass Studio, Estonia and LoCo Glass, UK. Her work has been selected for the Ireland Glass Biennale 2019 and British Glass Biennale 2022. Her work has been acquired by Ulster Museum for their Public Collection, and by the Office of Public Works for their Irish State Art Collection.
