Masterclass: Flame to Furnace – Laura Quinn

Tue 10 September- 10:30 am - Fri 13 September- 4:30 pm

Course Outline

In this multi-disciplinary masterclass, Laura Quinn will guide you through the process of creating intricate lampworked glass forms using cane pulled from furnace glass. The formations will be preheated and applied to blown vessels in the glass hotshop on the final day of the course. The emphasis will be on experimentation.

This class is suitable for intermediate level students, who can embrace failure as being part of the learning curve in testing the limits of interdisciplinary making. If you are unsure about suitability please email us.

  • Day 1 - Introduction to flameworking with furnace glass. We will cover techniques of how to flatten and shape petals, assemble botanical structures and other assemblages, plus figurine work.
  • Day 2 - Creation of refined flameworked pieces to be used in the hotshop.
  • Day 3 - Mixed day of hotshop and flameworking
  • Day 4 - Hotshop picking up flameworked pieces
