Masterclass: Wild Things – Sculptural Flameworking – Sandra Young
Course Outline
Take your sculptural flameworking skills into the wild with Sandra Young, whose extraordinary glass sculptures draw inspiration from nature and fantasy. In this two-day immersive masterclass, Sandra will share the techniques behind her fantastic creations as she guides you through making your own seahorse and dragon in borosilicate glass.
Through demonstrations and hands-on practice, you'll explore Sandra's techniques for melting and joining glass rods, using small tools to build and shape intricate sculptural forms. Experiment with new approaches, refine your technical skills and discover fresh possibilities for bringing your own sculptural ideas to life.
Participants should have some previous experience working with borosilicate glass and feel confident using a torch.

Profile - Sandra Young
Sandra Young is a Wiltshire-based glass artist who has specialised in sculptural flameworking for over 40 years. Working with solid borosilicate glass, she has developed distinctive techniques that allow her to create extraordinarily detailed sculptures, often on an impressive scale.
Inspired by nature, myth and fantasy, Sandra's work ranges from beautifully observed birds, wildflowers and aquatic creatures to elaborate dragons and mythical beasts. Her signature dragons capture her fascination with movement, character and the magical qualities of glass.
Sandra's work has been widely exhibited, and her sculpture 'World Dragon' won the Young Collectors' Award at the 2022 British Glass Biennale. An experienced demonstrator and tutor, she enjoys sharing the skills and techniques she has developed through decades of working at the torch.
