SUMMARY:Flameworking with Boro
DESCRIPTION:Course Outline\n	\n \n Join us for an introduction to flameworking with borosilicate or 'hard glass' – an ideal glass for jewellery\, sculpture or scientific glassmaking. On this one-day taster session\, you will experiment with a range of techniques\, using a torch to manipulate solid clear glass borosilicate rods: \n\nMelting (gathering) rounded globes\nStretching and pulling stringers and adding glass\nLinking rods to form chains\nUsing rods to create sculptural components\n\nThe forms you make can stay as separate examples of the technique\, or you can join them together to form a small sculptural piece. Skills learned in this class will enable you to further explore the potential of flameworking glass. \nNotes: Borosilicate or 'hard glass'\, is more durable\, copes well with temperature changes\, and is less prone to cracking\, than 'soft glass' which is commonly used to make beads. The melting temperature of boro is higher than regular glass and so the techniques involved and outcomes offer an alternative to soft glass flameworking. \n\n \n	\nFlameworking TutorsKerry CollisonSarah Morris

SUMMARY:Glass Kiln Casting
DESCRIPTION:Course Outline\n	\n \n A superb introduction to 3D glass forming techniques using moulds to create unique and personal kiln cast glass pieces. You will work with a variety of materials to make impressions and models ready for casting. Beginning with the simple “open cast” method\, you will progress onto the “lost wax” method. Come and explore kiln-forming glass under the expert tuition of Helga Watkins-Baker. \n\n \n	\nCourse Tutor - Helga Watkins Baker\n	\n \n \n \n \n	\n\n	\n \n Helga is co-founder and director of The Glass Hub and as well as working tirelessly backstage\, teaches warm glass courses. \nHelga originally trained in architectural stained glass\, undertook postgraduate studies in kiln techniques for glass at Central St. Martin’s College\, London\, and an MA in Glass at Wolverhampton\, specialising in kiln forming. She was chairperson of the Contemporary Glass Society from 2004-8\, and was an original founder of the Liquid Glass Centre. Her glass work is an interpretation of ideas concerning nature\, time\, and the energy of natural forces and elements\, such as air\, water\, light. She has worked in glass education for a number of years\, and in 2010 published Kiln Forming Glass an in-depth guide to kiln processes for glass.

SUMMARY:Masterclass: Flameworking Glass for Jewellery - Katherine Huskie
DESCRIPTION:Course Outline\n	\n \n This two-day borosilicate flameworking class is a playful\, hands-on introduction to creating glass elements for jewellery. You will explore how borosilicate glass moves\, stretches\, and transforms in the flame while experimenting with colour\, form\, and simple decorative techniques. Through demonstrations and guided making time\, you’ll learn ways to shape and manipulate glass with a focus on creativity and material exploration. \nThe class encourages curiosity\, trial and error\, and developing your own visual style. By the end\, you’ll leave with finished work\, new skills\, and a solid feel for working borosilicate glass at the torch. \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n	\nKatherine Huskie\n	\n \n Glass blowing has taken Huskie all over the world including a year based in Australia where she worked with numerous different glass makers to  expand and broaden her knowledge. The experience provided Huskie with the passion and determination to push her own glass designs. On  returning to the UK\, she set up Devereux & Huskie Glassworks with James Devereux. They specialise in creating glass for designers and artists from the UK and overseas. \nHuskie has always been interested in pattern whether it is within nature\, textiles or geometry. She is always searching for new influences and how  she can include the patterns in hot glass. \nIn 2018 Huskie was named Wimbledon Championship artist alongside Nancy Sutcliffe. They collaborated to create two large-scale glass works that are on display in the AELTC Clubhouse. In 2020 Huskie became a QEST scholar and received a grant to allow her to continue learning the craft of Neon. The scholarship allowed her to receive 1-2-1 tailored neon training in Brighton and since then she has set up and small workshop dedicated to her neon making and glass bending. \nIn 2022 Huskie was named in the 'Homo Faber Guide' which is dedicated to preserving and celebrating master craftspeople in their industries. \nhttps://katherinehuskie.co.uk \nQESST Scholar and Homo Faber Recommended Artist \n\n \n	\nInstagram

SUMMARY:Mastering Layers in Cast Class – Brenda Page
DESCRIPTION:Course Outline\n	\n \n Immerse yourself in four intensive days exploring the creative possibilities that emerge when glass becomes a three-dimensional canvas. This workshop invites you to push beyond surface decoration and venture into the realm of layered glass construction\, where image\, depth\, and light converge to create sculptural works of remarkable visual complexity. \nOver the course of this hands-on intensive\, you'll master a diverse range of image-making techniques specifically adapted for kiln-formed glass. From the precision of decal application to the spontaneity of experimental printmaking\, you'll explore powder printing\, wafer construction\, and an accessible screen-printing method that eliminates the need for emulsion or darkroom work. Each technique opens new creative pathways\, allowing you to build visual narratives that reveal themselves as light travels through multiple planes of glass. \nYou'll create five distinct pieces throughout the workshop: two intimate 6-layer mini blocks perfect for testing ideas and techniques\, two postcards that capture your explorations in a portable format\, and one ambitious 14-layer sculptural stack block; a substantial piece that showcases the full depth of your newly acquired skills. The interplay of transparency\, translucency\, and embedded imagery creates compelling optical effects that shift with viewing angle and lighting conditions. \nBeyond the creative process\, we'll delve deeply into the technical mastery that transforms ambitious ideas into successful finished works. You'll gain comprehensive understanding of damming techniques for controlled glass flow\, develop firing schedules tailored to complex multi-layer constructions\, explore strategies for reducing bubble formation\, and learn cold working methods to bring your pieces to a professional\, exhibition-ready finish. These technical foundations ensure your creative vision translates reliably from concept to completion. \nTo personalise your major piece\, you're invited to send an image to instructor Brenda by the end of June\, she'll transform it into a custom decal to incorporate into your 14-layer block\, adding a deeply personal dimension to your work. \nThis workshop is designed for students with foundational kiln-forming knowledge who are ready to expand their technical repertoire and explore the sculptural\, architectural potential of layered glass construction. \nWhat you'll take away:\n\nProficiency in multiple image transfer and creation techniques for glass\nTechnical confidence in complex kiln-forming processes\nFive finished pieces showcasing depth\, dimension\, and visual sophistication\nA comprehensive understanding of the science behind successful multi-layer work\nThe skills and knowledge to continue developing increasingly ambitious layered projects in your own studio\n\n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \n Brenda Page\n \n	\nBrenda Page\n	\n \n ‘Glass is my canvas; screen printing is brush.’\nBrenda Page is a Melbourne-based artist working across kiln-formed glass\, sculpture\, and printmaking. With a background in ceramic design and a major in glass from Monash University (1992)\, her practice explores materiality\, memory\, and transformation. She has exhibited extensively in Australia and abroad\, with solo shows at Craft Victoria\, the National Glass Centre\, and Gabriel Gallery. Brenda’s work has been recognised in major awards including the Tom Malone Prize and Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize\, and in 2025 she received an Ausglass Lifetime Membership for her significant contribution to the field of glass art. \n\n \n	\nInstagramFacebookWebsite

A unique and exciting experience. \nTaster sessions (also known as Half-Day Glassblowing) are run in the morning at 10.30am or the afternoon at 2pm and last approximately two and a half hours. Two objects are made and depending on the day the objects will include a blown bauble and a paperweight. Due to time constraints we are unable to make bespoke objects on these sessions but if you are interested in this then we do offer private tuition see 'Hire and Private Tuition' for more details. \n\n \n	\nOur Glassblowing TutorsNeil EdwardsDave BarryKT YunAbigail WilderspinAmy CastoSarah MorrisView All Morning Dates View All Afternoon Dates

This is a rare opportunity to experience how multiple processes - screen printing\, sandblasting\, kiln-fired enamels\, traditional stained glass paints\, silver and copper stains followed by plating\, and UV bonding - combine to create richly layered glass collage. \nUnlike traditional glass courses that focus on a single technique\, this course embraces experimental and intuitive making. Over the first two days\, you'll explore these processes freely\, building up a collection of samples and experiments. On the final day\, we'll bring everything together through cutting\, layering and UV bonding to create finished framed work. No previous glass or print experience required - just a willingness to dive in and experiment. All materials\, fixings and wooden frames included. \n\n \n	\nProfile - James Cockerill\n	\n \n \n \n \n	\n\n	\n \n James Cockerill is an award-winning glass artist and founder of HALTglass. He combines traditional stained glass techniques with contemporary printmaking\, using screen printing\, high-resolution sandblasting\, and kiln-fired enamels to create unique layered glass works. Recent projects include a gold medal-winning commission at RHS Chelsea for the King's Trust\, with upcoming solo exhibition at Pound Arts in Corsham (2026) and residency at Lamberts glass factory in Germany (2026). \nhttps://www.haltglass.com/

SUMMARY:Masterclass: Pâte-de-Verre Vessels - Alison Lowry
DESCRIPTION:“Glass offers endless sculptural possibilities and is full of contradictions- a mirror of life itself.” \nAlison LowryCourse Outline\n	\n \n Take a deep dive into the unique world of Pâte-de-Verre with artist Alison Lowry. Learn the process of creating glass works using frits (fine glass grounds)\, while examining form\, colour and texture. Alison will guide you through the basics of mould-making\, packing the glass and kiln firing. By creating multiple small ‘test’ vessels you will investigate how interest can be added with metal inclusions\, reactive glasses and texturing. You will then design and create a larger work incorporating all (or none!) of your experimental ideas. Alison will also offer advice on cold work using inexpensive tools  allowing you to complete any finishing at home. \nNo previous experience of glassmaking is required for this class. \n\n \n	\nAlison Lowry\n	\n \n \n \n \n	\n\n	\n \n Alison Lowry\, a glass artist based in Saintfield\, Northern Ireland\, operates from her studio\, 'Schoolhouse Glass.' Renowned for her exceptional talent\, Alison has amassed numerous accolades throughout her career\, and most recently\, was awarded second place at the Coburg International Glass Prize in 2022. Her work enjoys national and international acclaim\, with pieces held in various public collections. Her ground breaking work\, ‘(A)Dressing our hidden truths’\, shown at the National Museum of Ireland\, (2019- present)\, was one of the first acknowledgements of the Magdalene Laundries presented in an Irish Institution. The Museum subsequently purchased the exhibition for their permanent collection. \nalisonlowry.co.uk \n\n \n	\nFacebook
