By the end\, you’ll leave with finished work\, new skills\, and a solid feel for working borosilicate glass at the torch. \n\n		\n	\n\n	\n		\n		\n			\n		\n	\nKatherine Huskie\n	\n		\n			Glass blowing has taken Huskie all over the world including a year based in Australia where she worked with numerous different glass makers to  expand and broaden her knowledge. The experience provided Huskie with the passion and determination to push her own glass designs. On  returning to the UK\, she set up Devereux & Huskie Glassworks with James Devereux. They specialise in creating glass for designers and artists from the UK and overseas. \nHuskie has always been interested in pattern whether it is within nature\, textiles or geometry. She is always searching for new influences and how  she can include the patterns in hot glass. \nIn 2018 Huskie was named Wimbledon Championship artist alongside Nancy Sutcliffe. They collaborated to create two large-scale glass works that are on display in the AELTC Clubhouse. In 2020 Huskie became a QEST scholar and received a grant to allow her to continue learning the craft of Neon. Learn the process of creating glass works using frits (fine glass grounds)\, while examining form\, colour and texture. By creating multiple small ‘test’ vessels you will investigate how interest can be added with metal inclusions\, reactive glasses and texturing. She was chairperson of the Contemporary Glass Society from 2004-8\, and was an original founder of the Liquid Glass Centre. Add colour\, shape the form\, blow the glass and open it into a unique drinking vessel of your own. \nThis is a lively\, hands-on session led by our skilled glassblowers\, with clear demonstrations and support throughout. You will learn the fundamentals of this ancient craft and create your own glass objects using hot\, molten glass straight from the furnace. You will learn how to 'gather' and form a glass sphere (bauble)\, a paperweight and a vase. Class sizes are small so that you can have plenty of 'hands-on' time\, usually four students or less per tutor. \nOne day glassblowing is an ideal opportunity to try something you have always wanted to do\, or perhaps never thought of before. A guaranteed unique and exciting experience day\, where you will leave with a new understanding of glass and glassblowing\, as well as first-hand skills. \n\n		\n	\n\nOur Glassblowing Tutors\n	\n		\n			The Glass Hub team tutors are professional and experienced. DESCRIPTION:Course Outline\n	\n		\n			Join Zoe Garner for an introduction to flameworking with borosilicate or 'hard glass' On this one-day taster session\, using a torch\, you will experiment with a range of techniques to manipulate solid glass boro rods including: \n\nGathering glass to form globes\nLinking rods to form chains\nUsing rods to form sculptural components\n\nThe forms you make can stay as separate examples of the technique\, or you can join them together to form a small sculptural piece. Skills learned on this class will enable you to further explore the potential of flameworking with boro. \nNotes: Borosilicate (boro') or 'hard glass' is a more durable glass that copes well with temperature changes and is less prone to cracking than 'soft glass' most often used by flameworkers\, beadmakers and glassblowers. Over the past 15 years Zoe has taught specialist classes for the National Glass Centre\, and has been visiting lecturer in the University of Sunderland. DESCRIPTION:Course Outline\n	\n		\n			Explore the possibilities and potential of flame-worked Borosilicate glass\, drawing concepts and ideas from the movement of the material itself.  In this skills-based class\, you will transform glass rods and tubes into components using gravity\, centrifugal force\, blowing and manipulation with tools. Then connect your components into assembled structures. \nThrough a combination of demonstrations and free practice time\, starting from basics we will build a vocabulary of flame working skills that will form a solid foundation to move forward using flame working as an art form. \n\n		\n	\nOptional Taster Day\n	\n		\n			If you have limited experience or would like a refresher\, Zoe will be taking a taster session the day before the 3-day course. You will try out a range of different reactive elements\, combining them to create special colours and effects. \nCombine Bullseye sheet glass\, powder\, frit or metal foils. Experiment with the use of lead\, copper and sulphur bearing glasses\, as well as red reactive\, in sheet glass\, stringer and frit form. You will also explore the use of silver foil which results in unique and fascinating effects. Reactions range from subtle to dramatic and will enable you to develop new inspirations in glass design. \nYou will need some glass fusing experience to do this course.
